Astragalus, also known as huáng qí or milkvetch, is a herbal adaptogen commonly used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It is part of the legume family and the root is the only part of the plant that is used medicinally. Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that are marketed for their ability to assist the body in resisting stressors of all kinds.

Astragalus has three main beneficial components that contribute to its effectiveness; polysaccharides which have antimicrobial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties, saponins called Astragalosides which lower cholesterol and boost the immune system, and flavonoids which are powerful antioxidants that assist in preventing heart disease and aid with immunodeficiency.

Genologix Astragalus contains the most beneficial Astragaloside, type IV, which is standardised to 0.50%.

Antioxidants are molecules that combat free radicals in your body - when levels of free radicals become too high, they can become harmful and are linked to multiple illnesses. The body has its own antioxidant defenses to manage free radical levels which are constantly being formed, without antioxidants, free radicals would cause harm quickly.

Maintaining a good balance between antioxidants and free radicals may help to reduce inflammation and allergies while boosting immunities, metabolism and general health.
